To test color fastness of a new garment place it between two pieces of white fabric and steam iron it. If you see any dye on the white fabric it isn't colorfast.

Use hairspray to treat ink stains. Spray and blot until stain is gone. Rinse well before washing.

Baby wipes will take crayon off of pratically anything. Test garment on the inside for color-fastness first.

Using hairspray to remove ink works because of the alcohol in the product-so might as well try alcohol. Use carefully and test first. Hair spray leaves residue.

Some simple tips:
Sorting laundry: Whites (if not bleaching) and lights Darks Terry cloth robes, towels, etc. (creates lint) Delicates/ hand washed items Brights e.g. red Each color in is own load
Read the garment labels! Every garment sold in the U.S. has a label with laundry instructions. Follow and prevent ruin clothing.
Zip zippers(to prevent snags), unfold cuffs and clean-out pockets and turn inside out. Mend any tears before washing-a small tear becomes a huge rip in the wash.
